A Mini Cruise to Bilbao Review

If you are planning to take a mini cruise to Bilbao, you’re in luck as P & O offers a cheap but charming experience, offering the four day/ three night cruise starting at £400. Onboard the Pride of Bilbao, you’ll have your pick of things to do, whether it be taking advantage of the variety of dining options, relaxing by the pool, dancing the night away in the nightclub or catching a movie in the theater. You can expect a full day at sea to take advantage of everything the ship has to offer before arriving in Bilbao on the third day.

Once in Bilbao you’ll be able to see why the Guggenheim Museum has effectively transformed the city. The Guggenheim is constructed of Titanium, limestone and glass, shaped in random curves in order to “catch the light” as was explained by the building’s designer. When it first opened the building was hailed as a marvel in Deconstructionism. Inside the museum hosts numerous changing exhibits and a permanent exhibit featuring 20th century art. This museum is believed to be one of the best Spain has to offer.

The Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art is housed in an old Dominican convent and displays a large collection of religious art and artifacts. Here you will be amazed to see sculptures, paintings, furniture, silverware and traditional garments.

If art is not your forte, there is a guided tour of the city that allows you to not only admire the architecture of the city but treat yourself to the amazing shopping that Bilbao has to offer. A walk through Old Quarter supplies all the traditional shops with the latest fashions. But there are also some treasures to be found in the local produce, antique books and some of the traditional food on offer, the local tapas are definitely worth a try. For a truly unique shopping experience check out Plaza Nueva, which is often the site of fairs and colorful markets filled with local crafts and produce.

While visiting Old Town you may want to make a stop off at the Cathedral de Santiago which was built in the 14th century as part of the pilgrimage route to Santiago. This beautiful Cathedral was badly damaged in 1571 by fire but was rebuilt into what you can see today. Because it was rebuilt at a later date the Cathedral combines both Gothic and Renaissance styles for a truly magnificent sight.

Whatever you decide to do, there is little doubt that a mini cruise to Bilbao is the best way to get there, with a relaxing day at sea and never having to worry about luggage or lodging, your vacation can be the escape it was meant to be.
