Mini Cruises to the Channel Islands are a unique way of seeing a very unique place. The Channel Islands are named so because they rest right within the English Channel, despite this they retain their own sovereignty from both France and the UK.  P & O Cruises offers a mini cruise to St. Peter’s Port in Guernsey, which it claims to be the prettiest city in the Channel Islands, but there are a few other ferries as well that make the trip. Ferries also make trips to Jersey’s St. Helier which may be a less attractive port than St. Peter’s but it also offers a different experience.

In Guernsey, your best bet to get everywhere is by walking as the city is small and every corner seems steeped with history and beauty.  For history buffs, the Castle Cornet offers museums as well as its own history of being the last royalist stronghold of the English Civil War. The gardens of Guernsey are famous for their beauty and if you happen to visit the island while they’re in bloom it is truly a sight you won’t want to miss out on. Guernsey also offers a complete museum showing the remnants of German occupation in World War II, you’ll be able to see firsthand how the Germans lived during their stay in Guernsey. For a less modern experience take the ferry to the Isle of Sark, where there are no cars allowed and only quaint shops and beautiful vistas for entertainment.

If you choose instead to visit St. Helier, Jersey your entertainment options are a bit more limited but the town does offer a few museums that a well worth a look, including the Jersey Museum. This museum is much more entertaining than it may sound offering numerous of exhibits on what life has been like in Jersey throughout history, there is even a children’s play room which children can play with old toys and dress up in old-fashioned clothes.  If you go in the summer a trip to the beach is definitely in order as the water is perfect for swimming in. St. Helier’s also offers a few small shops, cafes, and bars that will keep you full and entertained for the duration of your stay.

While a trip to the Channel Islands may not seem at first like a new and exotic experience, the islands do have a lot to offer for the knowing traveler. They offer many options for those simply coming to spend the day after having a relaxing journey on a Channel Islands mini cruise.
